He judges my very round belly, Lucy’s inability to leave him alone, the bags under my eyes, and the fact that I couldn’t care less what I look like anymore. ![]() He doesn’t know me, but he’s already painting a picture of who he thinks I am in his mind. ![]() His cold, blunt observation of us doesn’t differ from any other stranger. I’m too busy most days between parenting, work, and finishing up my last year of nursing school to let their judging gaze tear me down until he moves into the vacant house next to the apartments I live in. I mean, why else would someone have a child so young, right? They couldn’t be more wrong. They see Lucy on my hip, and they see a mistake. ![]() ![]() ![]() Preceded in death by sister Carolyn, nephew Paul, 2nd wife Janice, & loving companion, Donna Hoiland. He was known as the undunkable dad, sunset photographer, master gardener, chief hummingbird observer, and navel contemplator. He had a keen eye for dad jokes & loved to share them in his daily email "smilers." Roger was a project manager at heart, creating detailed lists, attempting to solve problems to the end. His motto was "when given a choice of doing something familiar over something new, always choose the new." He was excited to share his knowledge and offer advice, often with humor added. He enjoyed flowers, creating many beautiful gardens and was an avid supporter of the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, often making weekly visits. Roger loved the outdoors and northern MN lakes, rivers, and North Shore. Undoubtedly, Roger's greatest construction project was a family cabin in Brainerd, spending weekends with pencil over ear & hammer in hand. He later worked for the Metropolitan Waste Control Commission & as VP of Hartnett Partnering Consultants. A large part of Jackson’s political work was militant journalism that included writing and publishing Marxist articles on prison life. What does this tell us about how to organize against the larger system of white supremacist capitalism? Armstrong notes how Jackson’s focus on building unity among prisoners across racial lines made him a particularly hated target by prison authorities. What price did Jackson pay for his commitments?.Why is it important for organizers not in prison to understand that revolutionaries are routinely punished in prison for their beliefs and for their actions?.Why is it significant that George Jackson did not become a revolutionary until he was incarcerated?.What practical insights does Gregory Armstrong’s Preface offer organizers?.For more information on the book, see this companion article to our Liberation School study guide. ![]() Jackson spent eleven years in prison, during which time he became a revolutionary political theorist and organizer. ![]() George Jackson finished writing Blood in My Eye just before he was assassinated by San Quentin prison guards in 1971. ![]() ![]() So, I read academic journals, scholarly books which show the state-of-the-art thinking of contemporary historians, sociologists and others on this issue. One, the contemporary scholarship in the field because even if I am not a professional, I am not supposed to be unaware of what professional historians have been doing. The other thing I had to do was keep up with two kinds of writing. Everything I said at Oxford barring one figure was 100 per cent accurate. The pay for these workers is assumed to be high, but Orwell explains that their base pay may seem generous because they are charged back on so many things. He visits one of the working mines and offers an account of what he saw there. Orwell then examines the lives of coal miners in Wigan, a town dominated by coal mines. One roommate worked at a coal mine and injured himself on the job. The family was slightly better off than most people in that area, but even so, they lived in cramped conditions and had to share rooms with other lodgers who were poor. The book begins with Orwell’s description of the house he rented from a family. He spent three months there studying the area and its people, which he wrote about in this book. ![]() ![]() The Road to Wigan Pier is a book by George Orwell that describes his experiences in northern England. 1-Page Summary of The Road To Wigan Pier Overall Summary ![]() ![]() What was supposed to be a quick outing turns into a full-blown murder investigation after the pack leader ends up dead, Park’s ex goes missing, and Cooper and Park are sent a series of disturbing wedding gifts that are somehow connected to it all.
